Boardgame Recommendations

Every year, the Graph Drawing and Network Visualization conference organizes a contest where they provide data which needs to be visualized. In 2023, the creative topic deals with the top boardgames on boardgamegeek.com and their fans-also-liked relations.

yWorks’ Contribution

In this visualization of the top-40 games, we show the connections between games according to what games the fans also liked. We divided the graph on three levels that provide different views on the data. The games are arranged using the hierarchical layout style in yFiles, and have the same locations across all levels. For the green and red level, we picked for each game the connections to those games, that most fans rated better or worse, respectively, and routed the connections separately on each level. The third level shows a clustering based on the games' categories.
